What is ULTHERAPY?
Ultherapy is the only FDA-approved, non-invasive treatment for skin tightening to lift the eyebrow, neck, jawline, and improve lines and wrinkles on the décolletagé. The best part, Ultherapy’s advanced technology allows it to bypass the skin’s surface (leaving the surface completely intact) to reach and treat depths that are unmatched by any other non-invasive cosmetic treatment with NO DOWNTIME! Skip the anesthesia, scars, and recovery time associated with surgery and join the millions of others who have tried Ultherapy.
How does Ultherapy work?
Ultherapy works by stimulating collagen production in your skin’s foundation, resulting in clinically significant lifting of tissue over the next 2-3 months, with maximum results achieved by 6 months.
But how does it do that?
The Ultherapy machine utilizes ultrasound technology to visualize each layer of the skin, allowing the precise depth of tissue to be targeted for each and every patient. This precise depth, known as the superficial musculoaponeurotic system or SMAS, is the same depth targeted and manipulated during a facelift surgery. The SMAS is a tissue sheet of collagen and elastin fibers, muscle, and fat cells that extends from the neck up to the forehead.
Then the focused ultrasound energy (sound waves) from Ultherapy deliver heat to the targeted cells to trigger neocollagenesis, a natural process where your body produces new collagen. As a result, the muscles tighten and the skin is lifted as it stimulates collagen production lost during the aging process. As Ultherapy stimulates new collagen production, pliability and elasticity are restored. With the combined benefit of muscle tightening and collagen production increasing, the skin looks tighter, more vibrant and smoother after just one treatment.
In addition to lifting the skin and making it look fuller, this therapy reduces the appearance of both deep and fine lines and wrinkles. It is an excellent choice for any person who wants to regain a youthful face, chin and neck without the risks that come with surgery or chemical-based treatments.
How do I know I am a candidate for Ultherapy®?A good Ultherapy candidate has mild to moderate skin laxity where the skin begins to feel and look less firm. Examples include a lowered eyebrow line, loose skin on the neck, sagging under the chin, and lines or wrinkles on the chest. Of course, the best way to find out if you’re an Ultherapy candidate is to schedule a free consultation appointment with one of our licensed providers.
What makes Ultherapy different from laser treatments?
Lasers and Ultherapy are utilized for different types of skin issues. Ultherapy uses focused sound energy while lasers rely on light energy. Laser treatments are typically used for issues on the surface and upper layers of the skin because light energy cannot reach deeper skin layers. Lasers cannot provide the “lift” seen with Ultherapy treatments. Ultherapy is the only treatment that can target the same depth as a facelift surgery. That said, laser and Ultherapy treatments are extremely compatible with one another as they can be utilized to address a variety of skin concerns on our patients.
How is Ultherapy different from Thermage?
Ultherapy and Thermage are quite different treatments. Thermage, which was used in the 1990s, uses monopolar radiofrequency energy to heat the skin. While some patients saw results from this, Thermage does not address the deeper, strong support layer of the face. Called the superficial musculoaponeurotic system or SMAS, this is the connective tissue layer that supports your facial muscles. Ultherapy is the only non-invasive treatment that can reach this deep SMAS level, which is the layer that plastic surgeons treat during surgery to provide additional tightening.
Can you combine Ultherapy with injectables like Botox or dermal fillers?
Ultherapy skin tightening can be combined with additional anti-aging interventions, including injectables like Xeomin and Dysport, and fillers such as Restylane, Belotero or Radiesse. It depends on what kind of results you hope for. During your Ultherapy consultation, we can discuss the value of adding different treatments and at the time the proper order in which these procedures should be done.
What does the Ultherapy treatment feel like? Is the procedure painful?
You will feel the energy being deposited in the depths of your tissue, indicating that the collagen-building process has been initiated. The sensation will only occur while the ultrasound energy is being delivered. That sensation and the amount of discomfort from the Ultherapy procedure can vary tremendously from patient to patient. Some patients may experience only mild discomfort, while other patients might note more significant discomfort. Initial studies with the treatment were performed with Tylenol alone for any discomfort, and this can work for some patients. Additionally, we will have Pro-Nox™ available for patient-administered pain control!
What is Pro-Nox™?
It’s a 50:50 mixture of gases, Nitrous oxide and Oxygen. Nitrous Oxide allows you to feel relaxed and oxygen is keeping you breathing comfortably. It’s considered a patient self-administered analgesia (pain management) that doesn’t make you sleepy. In fact, you remain awake and super comfortable during the procedure. The gas is inhaled through a small tube and the half-life (meaning how long it takes to wear off) of Nitrous oxide gas in the body is approximately 5 minutes.
Think of laughing gas given to kids when they are anxious during a dental procedure and now imagine yourself getting any procedure done using the same thing. Our goal with any treatment or procedure is to have our clients/patients as relaxed and comfortable as possible to minimize side effects so the treatment can be accurate and effective.
What exactly is Pro-Nox™ Nitrous Delivery system?
The use of Nitrous oxide goes back to 1793, which is over 150 years in the history of medical field. Pro-Nox™ delivery system has allowed medical providers in cosmetic field to perform non-invasive procedures for patients with absolutely zero discomfort. It’s unique inhalation tool allows patients to control their discomfort level while also allowing the provider to have full and unobstructed access to face or body areas while performing procedures.
How long do an Ultherapy treatments take?
The length of your procedure will vary depending upon the area being treated and your specific treatment plan. Ultherapy neck and facial procedures typically take 60 to 90 minutes, while chest treatments average approximately 30-45 minutes. There’s no downtime after the procedure with Ultherapy. You will be able to head home or back to work after your treatment.
Is Ultherapy safe?
Ultrasound energy has been used in medicine for over 60 years. Ultherapy has been cleared by the FDA and has been used safely all over the world in more than 1.5 million treatments. We’ve had specialized, one-on-one training in the use of Ultherapy, in addition to our years of education and training in the medical and aesthetics field.
What kind of results can I expect from my Ultherapy treatment?
Patients enjoy some initial effect immediately following the procedure, but the significant lifting will take 2 - 3 months, as tired collagen is rejuvenated and supplemented with new, stronger collagen. The ultimate results are seen by 6 months. We will track your progess with follow up pictures at 3months and 6 months. There isn't a replacement for the dramatic effects of surgery, but Ultherapy offers a natural, 'no downtime' approach to noticeably improving lax skin.
How long will the results last?
How long the results last actually depends on you. Ultherapy stimulates your collagen production on the inside, but the way your body ages will determine how long this production translates into visible results. Additionally, proper skin care is key to maintaining healthy, glowing, youthful skin. It is recommended that all of our patients be on a skin care regimen prior to treatment to ensure maximum results and longevity.
How many Ultherapy treatments will I need?
It is important to have a consultation to discuss the results that you hope to achieve, and how Ultherapy may be able to help alone or in conjunction with other treatments. In many cases, patients only need one treatment. Some patients need additional treatments, however, depending on the degree of skin laxity, their biological response to ultrasound energy, and their collagen-building process. Your skin will continue to age even after a facelift, and so future touch-up treatments can help you stay on top of your body’s natural aging process.
How much does Ultherapy cost?
For Ultherapy price, the cost of treatment varies depending upon the area being treated and the extensiveness of the issue. Each treatment is highly personalized, but during your consultation you will be given a treatment plan with cost.
